Geographical location
City of Polgár is located on Northwest edge of Hajdú-Bihar county, where three traditional Hungarian counties make the neighborhood (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg). In the West Polgár is bordered by Tiszapalkonya, a small country village and Tiszaújváros and Hejõkürt in the Northwest. All these are located on Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county territory. The natural border among them is made by river Tisza.
On Northeast the Szabolcs-Szatmár county - based Tiszadob and Tiszavasvári can be found which belong to historical Bereg county, whereas Görbeháza and Újszentmargita town make the loop from the south in Hajdú-Bihar.
Outer territory is bordered by Hajdúnánás in the east. Polgár lays for considerable distance from major cities of the region. The most remote one is Debrecen, the county seat - 57 km, Nyíregyháza - 51, Miskolc 49, Hajdúnánás - 25 km only.
Tiszaújváros, the city falling nearest can be found at 10 km. More former companion towns lay nearby: Folyás - 8km, Újtikos - 8 km, Tiszagyulaháza - 13 km, Újszentmargita 17 km, Görbeháza 11 km. The traffic geography situation of Polgár is advanced, having bypassed by the № 35 main road, from which № 36 second-class main route branches out leading toward Nyíregyháza.
The most considerable transit corridor in eastern country district is the M3 motorway, which surrounds Polgár from South. At Polgár’s main commuting junction of M3 motorway is located a unique place of tourist interest, an outstanding assembly of M3 Archeopark, the Polgár industrial site and a newly built commercial centre, called M3 Outlet Center.
